The old wooden church, built by Mr. Apushkin in 1779, had one altar dedicated to the Holy Trinity. It housed an icon with twelve relics of saints. The parish had 164 households, with 600 men and 575 women, all of whom were Great Russians engaged in agriculture, having 13 fathoms of land per soul in each of the three fields.

The only village in the parish, Pavlovka, also known as Gasovo, consisted of 48 households with a population of 141 men and 142 women, located three versts from the church. Three versts away was the estate of the steward Mr. Baghaut with 1000 desyatinas of land, and 15/2 versts away was the estate of Mr. Andreev with 400 desyatinas of land. The Kersha River flowed near the village, and at its end was a privately owned forest. The village had a church parish school, which was single-class and mixed. There were records of church property and metric books since 1801, as well as a staff that included a priest and a psalmist.

A new wooden church dedicated to St. Demetrius the Great Martyr was built in the village of Kersha near the site of the destroyed Holy Trinity Church. The initiator of the construction was A.F. Pakhomov, the director of the Tambov Apparatus plant. The temple was solemnly consecrated on November 8, 2006, on the feast day of St. Demetrius the Great Martyr, by Theodosius, the Bishop of Tambov and Michurinsk, who is now the Metropolitan of Tambov and Rasskazovo.
