Kurmanaevka, the district center of the Orenburg region, is located on the left bank of the Buzuluk River. The name of the settlement originated from the nickname of one of the first settlers, Ivan Pavlov, known as "kurmanay," in 1774. In 1830, a brick church in the style of late classicism was built here. It was a single-domed structure with a rectangular altar and narthex, as well as a multi-tiered bell tower. In 1929, the church was closed, and the bell tower was destroyed. Later, the building was used as a village club and sports school.

In 1995, the church building was returned to the believers. Architect Gennady Petrovich Chistyakov from Buzuluk developed the restoration project for the church in Kurmanaevka. The restoration of the Church of Dmitry of Thessalonica took place from 1995 to 2000. Almost all residents of the district center actively participated in the restoration of the church and the improvement of its territory. A Sunday school operates at the church, located in a separate building.
