In 1824, an Orthodox church was consecrated in Goryainovka, built with the funds of state councilor Alexander Alexeyevich Goryainov. This stone building had a bell tower and two altars: a cold main altar dedicated to Saint Dmitry, Metropolitan of Rostov, and a warm altar in the refectory dedicated to the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. The church was distinguished by its rich interior decoration, but its library was modest. The clergy consisted of a priest and a psalmist, and the clergy houses and outbuildings belonged to the church and were located on its land. On September 11, 1887, a one-class church school for boys opened in the village, led by priest Vasily Dobronravov. The school was located in the church watchman's house. In the summer of 1891, the duties of the school guardian were taken over by the estate manager of Goryainov, hereditary nobleman Ivan Christophorovich Knipper.
