The Church of Dmitry of Thessalonica in St. Petersburg was one of the outstanding examples of Byzantine architecture in the Russian Empire. In 1962, it was destroyed by communists, and a large concert hall "Oktyabrsky" was built in its place.

Dmitry of Thessalonica, also known as Dmitry of Salonika or Dmitry the Myrrh-streaming, was a Christian saint venerated as a great martyr. He suffered during the reign of Emperor Maximian and died in 306 AD. In the Orthodox Church, his memory is celebrated on October 26 (November 8), and in the Catholic Church, on April 9.
