Church of Dmitry of Rostov in Severny

Фото 1
In the village of Sok-Karmala, formerly known as Severny, a wooden church was built in 1765 in honor of Saint Dmitry of Rostov. This occurred shortly after his canonization in April 1757. The church had two chapels: one in honor of Archangel Michael, and the other, the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. After the revolution, the church was closed, and in 1972 it was completely destroyed.

The construction of a new church in honor of Dmitry of Rostov in the village of Severny began in 2001 with the blessing of Archbishop Valentin of Orenburg and Buzuluk, under the guidance of the rector, Father Mikhail Savochkin. The work continued for three years.

On June 18, 2004, a solemn consecration of the restored church in the name of Saint Dmitry of Rostov took place in the village of Severny. Now this majestic and beautiful building is a true adornment of the village and can be seen from afar.
