Saint Dmitry of Rostov holds a special place in the history of Rostov-on-Don, and the history of the modern church named in his honor goes back into the distant past. The first parish with this name appeared on the banks of the Don in 1751. At that time, it was just a chapel built with the blessing of the Bishop of Voronezh and Yelets, Kirill, and with the consent of the commandant of the fortress, Dmitry Somov. The chapel soon gained the status of a church and became a spiritual center in the new fortress. However, in 1796, due to its dilapidation, it was dismantled, and the materials were used to build a new Protection Church, where an altar in the name of Saint Dmitry of Rostov was established, continuing the history of the parish.

In our time, after many years of persecution against the church, it was decided to build a stone temple of Dmitry of Rostov. Construction began in 2000 based on the project by architect Voloshinova. On October 4, 2000, Archbishop of Rostov Panteleimon laid the first stone in the foundation of the future temple, and in 2008, the construction was completed.

Today, this beautiful white temple adorns modern Rostov-on-Don. In addition to worship services, a charitable canteen operates at the church, and its leadership actively collaborates with Rostov museums and engages in educating parishioners. The rector of the church is Father Alexander (Pyatnitsky), services are held regularly, and volunteers are ready to assist everyone.
