Church of the Epiphany in Golvinsk

Фото 1
The Church of the Epiphany is a rare rotunda-type temple for the province, representing a remarkable example of church architecture in the early classicism style with elements of baroque in the decor. The two-light rotunda with a hemispherical dome is topped with a light octagonal drum. The three-tiered bell tower, located on the axis of the church 18 meters away, consists of successively diminishing squares and a quadrangular drum. The facades of the church are divided by an entablature with a ribbon of dry crackers in the cornice into two tiers of different heights and are completed with an entablature with a profiled cornice. The walls are pierced with rectangular openings of the first and second light along eleven axes. In the first tier, two openings on the northern and southern axes are entrances, while the other two are false windows. The lower openings are decorated with framed casings with ears and pendants and topped with triangular sandriks. The drum has light windows with light architraves, and on the diagonal faces, there are rectangular niches of false windows. On the western side of the rotunda, traces of the connection of the refectory walls with metal ties are visible. All tiers of the bell tower are pierced with high arched openings on four sides. The two lower tiers are adorned with porticos featuring two three-quarter Tuscan columns and a gentle triangular pediment. The upper tier is decorated with two Tuscan pilasters on each side and topped with a figured attic with a round skylight.

The unified space of the church is covered with a dome vault featuring a round opening of the light drum, which has a cylindrical shape inside. On the western side, there is a wide arched opening leading to the refectory. At the base of the dome, there is a profiled plaster cornice. The lower tier of the bell tower is covered with a cross vault, and in the northeastern pilaster, there is a round room with a wooden spiral staircase.
