Church of the Epiphany and Bell Tower in Goritsky Monastery

Фото 1
In Pereslavl-Zalessky, the main attraction is the Goritsky Monastery, particularly notable is the bell tower of the Church of the Epiphany, located next to the Assumption Cathedral.

The construction of the bell tower took place from 1768 to 1777. During this time, the work was repeatedly halted but then resumed.

The bell tower is a tall building with four tiers. The local church is located on the lowest tier, where parishioners often participate in small services or simply stop by to light a candle for the health of their loved ones.

The bell tower is built of red brick and white limestone, which is used for the finishing of the base, cornices between the tiers, and other architectural elements.

Upon closer inspection, one can notice that the finishing of the upper tier significantly differs from the decor of the three lower ones. The decoration and detailing of the upper tier are not the same as those of the lower ones, which is related to the repeated interruptions in construction.

It can be assumed that the construction started by one architect was completed by another master.
