In the early 19th century, the village of Makaro was owned by the Polivanov family. In 1806, its owner was Ivan Petrovich Polivanov, the master of the village of Kozlyatievo. Since 1892, a parish school has been operating in Makaro. The Bogolyubskaya church was built in 1881 with funds from parishioners, while the refectory was constructed before the main church. In 1861, the altars of the side chapels dedicated to St. Sergius of Radonezh and the Holy Unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian were consecrated in the refectory.

The Church of the Bogolyubskaya Icon of the Mother of God in Makaro evokes mixed feelings. On one hand, efforts to restore the bell tower and the apse masonry are noticeable; on the other hand, the church is abandoned, overgrown with dense vegetation, and there are no beaten paths leading to it. All roofs have been completely lost. The spacious refectory, originally built without stone vaults for economy, has lost its wooden ceiling and now, with a bare cement floor, resembles an empty pool under the open sky. The revival of the church was short-lived: even the temporary roof made of boards and roofing felt over the main structure has collapsed again. Only bouquets of flowers under the preserved frescoes and a jar with candle stubs in the center remind us that this is a temple where life still flickers.
