Boltinka is a village located in the Sechenovsky district. According to local historian Vladimir Bakunin, it was founded in 1496 by Vasily Mikhailovich Boltin. His grandfather, Tatar murza Kutlubaga, left the Golden Horde in 1436 and entered the service of the Grand Duke of Moscow Vasily Vasilyevich. After baptism, he received the name Georgy, and his son Mikhail, nicknamed 'Bolt', became the founder of the Boltin family. Zhdan Petrovich Boltin, one of the later owners of the village, was a voivode in the Militia of 1611-1612, participated in the election of Mikhail Fyodorovich Romanov to the throne, and became the first Russian memoirist to describe the feats of the Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas people during the Time of Troubles. At the end of the 16th century, on his land by the P'yana River, the village of Zhdanova emerged, now in the Pilninsky district, where Ivan Nikitich Boltin, a historian and the first academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, was born in 1735.

According to the order of the Department for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Heritage of Nizhny Novgorod and the region dated April 24, 2000, the village church was recognized as an object of historical and cultural heritage. However, the order lost its force on October 20, 2014. According to local historian Bakunin, the stone church in the village was built in 1777 by landowner Darya Alexeyevna Krotkova. The church had two altars: the main one in honor of the Bogolyubskaya Icon of the Mother of God and a side altar in the name of Archangel Michael. The part of the village where the church was located was called Aleksandrovka. Another stone church, built by peasants in 1900, was also associated with it, featuring two altars: the main one in honor of the Bogolyubskaya Icon of the Mother of God and a side altar in honor of the Nativity of Christ. There was a wooden burial vault near the church, but these objects have not survived, and a brick new building was constructed on the site of the Boltin church. On the outskirts of the village, there is a powerful mineralized Bogolyubsky spring, where a mineral water production plant operates under the brand 'Boltinskaya.'
