The Varvarinskaya church at Pogost, built of stone along with a bell tower in 1794 with funds from parishioners, is surrounded by a stone fence. Inside the fence is a cemetery. The church has three altars: in honor of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Barbara the Great Martyr, and Venerable Macarius of Egypt the Miracle Worker. A special shrine of the temple is the icon of Saint Barbara the Great Martyr.

The church is located 180 versts from Kostroma and 11 versts from Chukhloma. The nearest churches are the Abraham Monastery and the Protection Church in the village of Nozhkino, which are one verst away, as well as the Trinity Church in the village of Mirokhanovo, located 7 versts away.
