Church of the Annunciation in Kokhma

Фото 1
The revival of church life in Kokhma, Ivanovo region, began in the 1990s with the establishment of the Holy Annunciation parish. This became possible thanks to a small initiative group of local Orthodox residents who were simultaneously searching for a venue for worship.

The city administration allocated the third floor of an abandoned building to the parish. This dilapidated space was quickly renovated with the support of private donors and local businesses. By March 1994, the main repair work was completed. In the autumn of the same year, a children's Sunday school began operating in the parish. The opening of the parish was accompanied by preparations for the construction of a new church. In 1998, the foundation was laid, and by 2005, the work on the walls, bell tower, vaults, and dome drum was completed. Thanks to donations from the residents of Kokhma and surrounding settlements, as well as businesses and public organizations, the construction of the church became a true people's endeavor.

The height of the church is 36.5 meters, and its total area is 980 square meters. A fence made of brick and cast-iron grilles has been erected around the church. The basement and main entrance are faced with marble, and inside there is an iconostasis made of cast stone. The bell tower is equipped with bells weighing a total of 960 kilograms. The church has two floors: the upper one is designated for worship, while the basement is being developed into a spiritual and educational center. It includes rooms for the Sunday school, a library, a lecture hall for 50 people, a small refectory, and a church-archaeological cabinet.
