The Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary is located near the village of Kashpir in the Syzran district. In 1712, the Annunciation Monastery was founded at the church, also known as the Simeon and Theophany Monastery.

For a long time, a miraculous icon of the Beheading of John the Baptist was kept here.

Emperor Alexander II visited to pray here with his son, the future Alexander III, after they laid the first stone for the new cathedral in Samara on August 29, 1871, where Kuybyshev Square now stands.

According to local fishermen, the depth of the Volga in these areas has decreased by several meters over the past 50 years due to siltation of the bottom caused by erosion and landslides. The village located near the monastery was completely destroyed by a landslide. However, the hill on which the church stands has remained unchanged for over three centuries. This place is considered special, as the locals used to say, 'well-prayed.' There is a sense of tranquility here, and the walls are still adorned with unique frescoes.
