The Church of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos in Dyud'kovo

Фото 1
To the north of the Nikolskaya Church stands the brick Annunciation Church, characteristic of provincial architecture from the second half of the 18th century. Its structure is traditional: an octagon rests on a cubic base of the lower tier and is covered by a vaulted ceiling. The upper octagon serves as the base for a decorative dome in the shape of a bowl with a cross. To the east, a five-sided apse adjoins the main volume, while to the west, there is a low refectory and a three-tiered bell tower. The facade is decorated in an early classical style with elements of baroque. Features of architecture from past eras are visible in the wide pilasters at the corners of the square, the multi-faceted cornices with brackets, and the window frames with baroque "ears." The decoration of the octagon and the bell tower uses the same decorative motifs: wide panels and a crenellated cornice. The architects took into account the church's location on the edge of the upper river terrace, striving to make its silhouette expressive. This explains the tiered composition and elongated proportions. In the false window on the eastern side of the octagon, there was a painted composition of the Annunciation, traces of which are still visible today. There were also frescoes on the western side of the octagon and in the niche of the central side of the apse. The window frames differed in color from the walls. Inside the church, oil paintings from the late 19th century and a carved iconostasis from the early 20th century have been preserved.
