In the city of Cannes, France, there is a Russian Orthodox church dedicated to Archangel Michael, also known as the Mikhailo-Archangel Church. Here lie the remains of representatives from several European royal families, including the Romanovs. However, not everyone is aware of this church's existence, and we will try to change that.

The Church of Archangel Michael was established thanks to the Russian community living in France before the revolution, particularly the efforts of Grand Duchess Anastasia Mikhailovna. The granddaughter of Emperor Nicholas I actively contributed to the development of the parish and initiated the construction of the church. The church's design was developed by architect Louis Nouveau, and the board of trustees was headed by Grand Duke Michael Mikhailovich. Archpriest Georgy Ostromov, the spiritual advisor to Anastasia Mikhailovna, also played an important role.

Construction of the church began in 1894, and it was consecrated in 1896. The appearance of the church influenced the toponymy of the city, and the street on which it is located was named after Emperor Alexander III. The main benefactors were members of the House of Romanov, including Grand Duke Michael Mikhailovich and Grand Duke Sergei Mikhailovich, who was executed by the Bolsheviks. The church became a center for the Russian emigration, especially after the Bolshevik revolution. In 1921, Grand Duke Andrei Vladimirovich married Matilda Kshesinskaya here, and later the community of 'Vityazi' settled here. In the following years, Grand Duke Peter Nikolaevich and his wife Militsa, Nikolai Nikolaevich (the younger) and his wife Anastasia, as well as Prince Peter Alexandrovich of Oldenburg found their rest here.

Currently, the church is closed due to an emergency state and the collapse of the bell tower's dome, and part of the remains of Nikolai Nikolaevich and his wife have been transferred to Moscow.
