Фото 1
The church was built at the initiative of the head of the theology department of Tula State University, Archpriest Lev Pavlovich Makhno, and with the blessing of the Bishop of Tula and Belev, Kirill Nakonechny. This was necessary for the department to have its own laboratory for students to conduct practical classes in liturgical theology.

Initially, in 2001, the church was located on the third floor of building 9 of Tula State University, next to the theology department's office. It was consecrated in honor of the martyrs Faith, Hope, Love, and their mother Sophia. On September 16, 2001, Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and all Rus consecrated this church, as well as the cornerstone of the future church of the Archangel Michael, which is now located at the altar part of the church on the street.

In May 2010, the foundation of the future church of the Archangel Michael was consecrated. The ceremony was attended by Metropolitan Alexy Kutepov of Tula and Belev, Governor of Tula Region Vyacheslav Dmitrievich Dudka, Rector of Tula State University Mikhail Vasilyevich Gryazev, head of the theology department Archpriest Lev Pavlovich Makhno, representatives of the Tula regional government, professors and teachers of Tula State University, clergy of the Tula Diocese, and students.

The construction of the church, built in the traditions of Russian wooden architecture, was completed in 2011. The altar, consecrated in honor of the martyrs Faith, Hope, Love, and their mother Sophia, was moved from building 9 to the church of the Archangel Michael in the right nave.
