Church of the Apostles Peter and Paul in Nikolsky Monastery

Фото 1
The gate church of Peter and Paul, built in the Baroque style in 1748, has lost some of its decor over time. For example, the windows lack the characteristic Baroque figured frames, but otherwise, it has retained its original appearance. The slenderness and upward aspiration of the church are given by the elongated dome, which is topped with a narrow high drum with a small gilded cupola. The dome has fairly large dormer windows cut out on all four sides, which resemble the windows of the square base that supports the dome in both framing and size. The church is surrounded by a closed gallery, set on a powerful square base, making it appear more massive and squat. At the bottom of the square base are the holy gates, but after the monastery's closure, two passage arches were bricked up. The church was built with donations from Moscow merchants, the Kholshchevnikov brothers.
