In 1793, a small warm church with two altars was built in the Ilyinsky parish. The right chapel is dedicated to St. Andrew the First-Called, the patron saint of one of the benefactors, merchant Andrei Tsybyshev, while the left is dedicated to St. Simeon the God-Receiver and the Prophetess Anna. For a long time, the church remained unrenovated: its wooden roof was periodically repaired, giving it a dilapidated appearance. Over time, the roof was replaced with iron, a new gilded iconostasis was installed, and in the 1870s, merchant Pyotr Alekseevich Rukavishnikov funded the construction of a stone annex, significantly increasing the church's capacity. Thanks to the efforts of the elder Vasily Alipievich Nesterov, the old fence was replaced, the iconostases in both churches were updated, and other repairs were carried out.

A unique feature of the St. Andrew the First-Called Church is its two-part, two-apsidal altar. Research on churches in other regions, conducted by Nizhny Novgorod architects-restorers under the guidance of S.N. Stolyarenko from 1956 to 1996, found no analogs to this church.

Over time, both churches, Ilyinskaya and Andreyevskaya, were richly decorated. During the confiscation of valuables on May 13, 1922, the total weight of the confiscated items amounted to 2 poods 7 pounds 88 zolotniks.

In 1918, there were 683 people in the Ilyinsky parish. The parish included wealthy but somewhat stingy people, whom local priest Alexander Lavrov complained to Arzamas Bishop Mikhail Kudryavtsev in 1923, as they deprived him of his due support.

The first wave of church closures in 1928-1929 did not affect the Ilyinsky parish, but the number of believers decreased to 166 by February 1930. In March 1929, the Andreyevskaya church was temporarily handed over to the Renovationists from the closed Vvedensky church until November.

The church operated until the fall of 1934, when it was handed over to the Renovationists led by Mikhail Rubin. On February 27, 1935, the building was repurposed as a pioneer club, and after the war, in 1956, it housed the DOSAAF automobile and motorcycle club.

The restoration of the St. Andrew the First-Called Church began in 2004, and the consecration took place on March 20, 2005. Services are now regularly held in the church.
