In Uglich, the Alexeyevskaya Church, built in the 16th century, has been discovered. The expedition of the ancient Russian archaeological team 'Hermitage' found it on the grounds of the Alexeyevsky Women's Monastery. Inside the modern building, ancient walls and vaults have been preserved. The church was built in honor of Metropolitan Alexy of All Russia.

The Alexeyevsky Women's Monastery in Uglich may now become one of the most popular places in the city. An ancient tent-shaped temple has been preserved here, and now the Alexeyevskaya Church has been found. Archaeologists uncovered the foundation of its altar section and walls. According to Ekaterina Turova, head of the architectural team of the expedition, all 16th-century churches in Russia are already known, and finding a new monument that has been almost completely preserved is a great rarity.

During the Soviet era, the building was reconstructed, housing a kindergarten and an art gallery. It is now planned to restore the church to its original appearance. The abbess of the monastery, Mother Magdalena, emphasized that prayers and the Liturgy should take place in the temple.

The church was highly revered by the faithful, as evidenced by the worn paths. Ekaterina Turova noted that the brick floor was originally 6.5-7 cm thick, but now its thickness is about 1 cm, as 80% of the thickness has been worn away by the feet of parishioners. Employees of the 'Hermitage' suggest that Italian masters who worked in the Moscow Kremlin may have participated in the construction of the Alexeyevskaya Church. The residents of Uglich hope that the temple in the 21st century will be restored as quickly as the capital's cathedrals.
