Church of Alexius, Man of God, at the Zemskaya Hospital in Shuya

The Alexievskaya Church, located at the zemskaya hospital, was part of a complex of buildings constructed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The hospital began its operations in 1866. It was a small pavilion-type hospital, characteristic of the planning and architecture of zemstvo and railway medical institutions of that time. The church was built in 1887 thanks to the efforts of merchant A.N. Novikov, who was engaged in grain trading.

The church is a small temple in the Russian style, typical of the eclectic era. The architectural composition includes a compact square base with a lowered semi-circular apse and a low tent-shaped bell tower, connected to the square base by a narrow narthex. The low plinth is faced with white stone, which is also used for elements of the facade decor. The corners of the square base are adorned with bundles of thin columns with cubical capitals, supporting a wide cornice with teeth. The side facades feature ornate frames made of alternating layers of brick and stone, framing two high windows topped with semi-circular kokoshniks with a keel-shaped finish. Between them is a vertical rectangular panel with an entrance portal, decorated with a massive keel-shaped archivolt on white stone columns. The decor of the apse and narthex includes similar frames and a cornice with a protruding edge. The lower square of the bell tower, with adjoining side chambers, is topped with a quadrangular tier of bells with white stone inserts in the archivolts and widths. The base of the octagonal tent is decorated with small keel-shaped kokoshniks. The portal of the western entrance with a kiot at the top of the gable rests on faceted pillars with cubical capitals.

After the church was closed, the dome and bell tower were lost, the windows were bricked up, and the interior decoration was destroyed. In the early 1990s, the church was handed over to the believers, and renovation work was carried out. Currently, the Alexievsky Church is a dependency of the Nikol-Shartomsky Monastery. The first service was held in it in the spring of 1995 by Seraphim with the blessing of the monastery's abbot, Archimandrite Nikon.
