In 1802, Captain of the Fleet A. Durassov received significant plots of state land as a gift, where he resettled his serf peasants. These peasants became the founders of the village of Stepnoe Durassovo.

In September 1861, the son of the first owner of these lands, Captain of the Fleet Fyodor Alexandrovich Durassov, built a church in honor of Saint Alexander Svirsky. The church building was made of stone, unheated, and could accommodate up to 500 people. Nearby were a wooden bell tower and a watchman's lodge, as well as a parish cemetery surrounded by ditches. The church had a parish school and a literacy school. The church in Stepnoe Durassovo was considered one of the most beautiful in the Elizabethin volost, now Klyavlinsky district.

After the revolution, the church was closed, the crosses were removed from the domes, the bells were smashed, and the building was used for storing fertilizers. For a long time, it remained in a semi-ruined state.

In 2001, Archbishop of Samara and Syzran Sergey blessed the creation of a parish in Stepnoe Durassovo and the restoration of the temple. Reconstruction work is ongoing.
