The parish in the village of Verkhnyaya Yelshanka began its work with the opening in 1895 of a church dedicated to the holy righteous grand prince Alexander Nevsky.

In 1943, this church was destroyed by a fire set by German fascist troops. That same year, 200 meters from the burned church, the villagers organized a smaller house church in one of the residential buildings.

In 1962, this church was closed, its property was transferred to the Cathedral of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, and the building was handed over to the Main Post Office. Until 1991, it housed the post office, and then a vegetable shop. In 1995, the building, which was in extremely dilapidated condition, was transferred to the Volgograd Diocese. The reconstruction that began effectively led to the construction of a new church: the house was faced with brick and complemented by a miniature bell tower.
