The prayer room in the strict regime colony in Melekhovo was established in 1996 and was located in the building of the library for prisoners. In 2001, at the numerous requests of the faithful, the construction of a church in honor of the holy and righteous prince Alexander Nevsky began. This white stone church was built by the community.

On July 13, 2007, Bishop Evlogiy consecrated the church. For his significant contribution to the spiritual and moral education of prisoners and the construction of the church, the head of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Vladimir region, Andrey Novikov, was awarded the Order of the Holy Righteous Prince Daniel of Moscow, third class. On June 19, 2009, Archbishop Evlogiy of Vladimir and Suzdal conducted the ceremony of consecration of the bells of the bell tower.
