The church in the name of Saint Prince Alexander Nevsky in the village of Makaro, Rybinsk, is an active shrine. Its construction began in 1913 at the initiative of the executors of Alexander Petrovich Kozhevnikov, a local native and owner of a leather factory on the banks of the Volga. Kozhevnikov, a peasant by origin, was a well-known industrialist and public figure, elected to the Rybinsk City Duma and the district zemstvo assembly, and also served as a deputy in the III State Duma. After his death, his widow Anna Dmitrievna and nephew Nikolai Sergeevich decided to fulfill his will and build the church.

The laying of the temple took place on September 15, 1913, with a large gathering of people. Due to World War I, construction was completed only in 1918. During this time, N.S. Kozhevnikov was hiding from persecution, his property was confiscated, and funding ceased. Residents of the surrounding villages created a church community and decided to complete the church with their own funds. The authorities allowed this, provided the missing church utensils, and regular services began in 1919. It was also then that the first burials appeared in the Makaro cemetery.

The church is built in the 'Russian style,' combining traditional elements of parish churches with classical details. The first priest was Deacon Alexander Khmelnytsky, and after his death, his son Boris Alexandrovich. During the period of collectivization, Boris was arrested and died in custody but was rehabilitated in 1989. Then, Priest Peter Dubasov served.

In the late 1930s, the church was closed. In 1942, at the request of the believers, permission was granted to hold an Easter service. The church operated temporarily, but in the early 1960s, it was closed again. Over the years of neglect, the church fell into disrepair and was damaged. In 1997, at the initiative of Metropolitan Vasily Denisov, restoration work began. The exterior, interior, and iconostasis were restored, and regular services resumed.
