The Church of Saint Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky in Veliky Novgorod is part of a complex of buildings that belonged to the first teacher's seminary in the early 20th century. It is located on Korsunov Avenue, on the banks of the Verizha River.

On March 26, 1913, the Zemstvo Provincial Assembly decided to build a stone one-story building for a model school and a separate stone church in honor of the 300th anniversary of the House of Romanov at the Grigorov Teacher's Seminary.

Construction of the church began in the fall of 1913, based on a project by K.K. Romanov, a well-known researcher of ancient Russian architecture, with modifications made by Novgorod engineer R.R. Ergley.

On August 4, 1915, after the main construction work was completed, a solemn bell-raising ceremony took place. A record of the church's construction is found in the clerical records of the Lazarev Church, attributed to the Zverin-Pokrovsky Monastery.

On January 9, 1916, the church was consecrated in the name of Saint Blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky. The rector from its founding until its closure was Priest Alexander Ilyinsky, who taught the Law of God and Church Slavonic at the seminary.

On July 31, 1930, the church was closed, and in 1931, the building was transferred to the Grigorov State Farm, where it was used as a club for the veterinary technical school.

During the Great Patriotic War, during the occupation, the church building housed a garage for vehicles of the Spanish 'Blue Division,' and the bell tower served as a machine gun tower.

After the liberation of Novgorod, a temporary hospital was set up in the church. In the post-war years, the building housed a shop and a warehouse.

On February 17, 1999, the Alexander Nevsky Church was included in the list of objects for restoration for the 1140th anniversary of Veliky Novgorod.

On December 19, 1999, Archbishop of Novgorod and Staraya Russa Lev consecrated the restored church.

On March 13, 2016, Metropolitan of Novgorod and Staraya Russa Lev consecrated the bells of the church in honor of its 100th anniversary. On April 8, the bells were raised to the church's bell tower.
