The Cherdyn Local History Museum named after A.S. Pushkin, one of the oldest in the Perm region and the Urals, was founded in 1899 at the initiative of the chairman of the county zemstvo administration D.A. Udintsev.

Today, the museum represents a rich collection of historical values. Its collections include archaeological items (16,333 units), numismatics (15,300 units), ethnography (6,278 units), as well as a large local history library with 30,000 publications, including rare books from the 16th and 18th centuries. Although the collections of painting, graphics, decorative and applied arts, and sculpture are not as extensive, they are of interest to a wide audience.

A particular pride of the museum is the collection of items from the Perm animal style of the 7th-9th centuries. A unique find in the archaeological collection is a silver Iranian dish from the 7th century, discovered in the village of Bolshie Anikovo.

The museum also preserves nationally significant historical relics, such as warrior armor from the 10th and 15th centuries and the shackles of boyar M.N. Romanov from 1601.

The natural science collection includes stuffed rare animals, such as albino foxes and squirrels. Among the ethnographic materials, a two-door carved cupboard with 18th-century painting stands out, as well as embossed and gingerbread boards. The museum's samovar collection contains rare specimens from the late 18th century, including a kitchen samovar, a travel samovar, and a samovar by the Tula master Lisitsin.

The book collection from the 16th to the 20th centuries occupies an important place among the museum's collections. It includes rare old printed and manuscript books, as well as samples of 'hooked' writing. The department of documentary written sources has over 30,000 storage units and includes family archives of Cherdyn merchants, city council and county zemstvo documents, materials on education, healthcare, patronage, and charity. These documents are actively used by students and scholars from Perm, Chelyabinsk, Yekaterinburg, St. Petersburg, Moscow, as well as local historians and schoolchildren.

The museum has two branches. In 1990, an exhibition hall was opened in the building of the former women's gymnasium, and in 2000, in the building of the former Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the museum of the history of the Orthodox faith.

The Cherdyn Museum has twice been awarded the Perm region prize in the field of culture and art: in 2000 for the exhibition 'Archaeology and the History of the Region Before the 18th Century' and in 2002 for the exhibition of the Museum of the History of the Orthodox Faith 'Temples of the Cherdyn Land'. In 2005, it became a laureate of the VII International Festival 'Intermuseum-2005' in the nomination 'Museum and School'. In 2006, the museum won the festival 'Museum 2006. Eurasia' in the nomination 'Love Your Land' and received a Gold Medal.

The museum implemented the project 'From the Generosity of the Soul', dedicated to the revival of charitable traditions, which won the regional competition for social and cultural projects and received support from LLC 'LUKOIL, PERM' in 2007.

In May 2011, the Cherdyn Museum won an open competition for the creation of innovative projects and new exhibitions in the museums of the Perm region in the nomination 'New Exhibition' with the project 'Learning, Light. From the History of the Cherdyn Women's Gymnasium'.

For many years, the museum has been a venue for annual scientific and practical conferences and seminars focused on historical, cultural, and ecological topics.
