Anton Pavlovich Chekhov was born on January 29, 1860, in Taganrog, and his name is known worldwide as a symbol of Russian literature. Having lived only 44 years, he managed to accomplish an incredible amount. His works remain relevant and are published in many languages, while his plays are hugely popular among theatergoers.

Since 1909, Chekhov's works have been adapted into films nearly 550 times. In pre-revolutionary Russia, 7 films were made, and it is already impossible to count the number of countries where his works have been adapted.
