The '12 Apostles' complex is an impressive architectural structure and one of the main attractions of Yoshkar-Ola. It is located in Patriarch Square and attracts the attention of passersby. Every three hours, to the sound of music, the doors of the clock open, and figures appear. The appearance of the '12 Apostles' figures symbolizes the Lord's Entry into Jerusalem, as described in the Gospel. The first figure to emerge from the gates, symbolizing Jerusalem, is Jesus Christ, sitting on a white donkey and blessing the people. He is followed by the twelve apostles: Andrew the First-Called, pointing to the Savior, Peter with the keys to paradise, John the Theologian with a scroll, James the son of Zebedee, Matthew the Evangelist with a book, Thomas the Doubter, Philip from Bethsaida, Bartholomew, James the Less, Thaddeus, and Simon the Zealot. The last is Judas Iscariot, holding a bag with thirty silver coins for betraying Christ. The apostles with palm branches follow to the right gates, entering one after another. The idea of the project belongs to L. Markelov, and its implementation was carried out by A. Kovalchuk and I. Kudryavtsev.

The complex was opened on November 4, 2011. The musical accompaniment, the hymn 'Let every human flesh be silent,' was chosen by the Bishop. The technical part was provided by scientists from the Mari State Technical University.

The dynamic sculpture amazes viewers, evoking admiration from passersby. It can be seen from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. This project is unique for Russia, as similar moving sculptures have not been created before. The body parts of the figures, such as arms and legs, move, making the apostles appear lifelike. The sculptures combined efforts to create this work. The figures of the apostles are made almost life-size, each cast in bronze, about one and a half meters tall and weighing around 200 kilograms. The total weight of the composition is approximately three to four tons, and its diameter is about three meters. The figures were cast in Moscow, then delivered to Yoshkar-Ola, installed, and painted.
