The Chapel of St. Demetrius of Thessalonica is located beyond the southern border of Oryol on the territory of Luzhkov Cemetery, not far from the E95 "Moscow-Simferopol" highway. It belongs to the Smolensk Church of Oryol, which is now the cathedral. The construction of the chapel began in 1996 and was completed in 1997 with the blessing of the Archbishop of Oryol and Livny, His Eminence Paisius.

The work was funded by donations from organizations in Oryol. The design and organization of the construction were carried out free of charge by the honored architect of the RSFSR, G.T. Rakitin. In February 1998, the chapel was consecrated in honor of St. Demetrius of Thessalonica. Daily burial services and memorial services are held here, and on Saturdays at 11:00, general memorial services take place.
