Фото 1
The chapel of Saints Cosmas and Damian is located near the village of Holmetsky Khutor, 8 kilometers from the Ploshchanskaya Desert, next to Holmetsky Lake, which is fed by underground springs. Previously, there stood a wooden church with the same name, built in 1697 on the estate of Count Apraksin. According to legends, in the 18th century there was a monastic hermitage here, where monks from the Ploshchanskaya Desert lived, seeking solitude. The spring is formed from numerous sources that merge into one body of water, and the stream flowing from it flows into the Nerusa River. The water from this spring has always been renowned for its unusual taste and healing properties, and even during Soviet times, it was not filled in. There are known cases of healing for ailments of the legs. In the 1990s, the local collective farm arranged a pool for drawing water and built a log structure with a roof. Since then, newlyweds from all corners of Bryansk region come here on their wedding day to drink the holy water and strengthen their marital bond. In 2003, at the stream flowing from the spring, a wooden bathing area for pilgrims was built on the initiative of the Kazan Mother of God Ploshchanskaya Desert.
