Among the most notable cultural and historical sites in the area is the ancient chapel in the village of Chernutyevo, which is over 200 years old. It is one of the rare surviving wooden churches of the Komi region, built in the 18th century. According to legend, the chapel was erected by local peasants using funds obtained from the sale of bear skins. It was dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul and originally stood atop a ravine, near the Mezen River.

In 1931, the chapel was moved to a new location and repurposed as a collective farm storage facility. Today, few residents of Chernutyevo know that the dilapidated log building next to the school was once a church. However, their ancestors particularly revered the chapel, considering it the favorite place of Archangel Michael.

The chapel housed a miraculous icon of the "Assembly of Archangel Michael." According to legend, it was purchased from a wandering merchant who initially could not agree on a price and left. After walking a few yards, he became blind, but after praying and promising to return the icon to the village, he regained his sight.

In 1885, a new chapel was built in Chernutyevo in honor of Archangel Michael, where the icon was transferred. This building was lost during the Soviet era. In June 1893, when a forest fire threatened the village, the residents took the icon and went towards the fire. After a prayer service and a promise to restore the chapel, the wind changed direction, and the fire receded.

The veneration of the miraculous icon was widespread even beyond Chernutyevo. Every year, on November 8, the feast day, many pilgrims traveled to the village, covering up to 200 versts, to pray before the healing image.

Unfortunately, in the 1970s, the famous icon was taken away by employees of the Leningrad museum.
