In the Uzbek neighborhood, there remains a stone chapel of St. George the Great Martyr and Victorious, known in archival documents as the chapel at the Kamelan Gates, dating back to the first half of the 19th century. This is the first stone temple structure in Tashkent.

The chapel was built on the site of the burial of Russian soldiers who died during the storming of Tashkent under the command of General Chernyaev in June 1865. They were buried in a mass grave outside the fortress wall, in accordance with Eastern tradition. On the day of the chapel's opening, there was a procession and a memorial service for the fallen soldiers, accompanied by a cannon salute.

During the Soviet era, the chapel fell into disrepair, as the authorities did not support either colonial wars or religious structures. In the 1920s, the gravestone with the inscription "If anyone lays down his life for others" was lost.

The condition of the chapel is now satisfactory, although the wall paintings have not survived. Until recently, an elderly woman from an Uzbek family took care of the chapel, but after her death, no one has been looking after the building.

There is a plan to relocate the chapel to the complex of the under-construction Spiritual and Administrative Center of the Tashkent and Central Asian Diocese in Tashkent.

In 2020, on the day of Orthodox Easter celebrations, restoration work to restore the chapel was completed.
