In 1998, in Danilovo, thanks to the initiative and funding from veterans who participated in combat actions in Afghanistan and Chechnya, a wooden chapel was built in honor of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God. It was erected in memory of local soldiers who fell while defending the Motherland, on the site of the former Smolensk church, which was destroyed during the Soviet era.
Currently, the chapel has been transferred to the Yaroslavl Diocese and is managed by the Danilov Kazan Women's Monastery. In August 2009, a commemorative plaque was installed and solemnly consecrated on the chapel.
