Chapel of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God in Baturino

Фото 1
The modest wooden chapel belongs to the type of small rural cult structures that were widely spread in the Kostroma province. It was built between 1906 and 1914. The walls of the chapel are made of logs joined in a lap joint, but the plank cladding has disappeared over time, and the windows are boarded up. The chapel is located in an open area on the outskirts of an abandoned village. The square-shaped log structure is topped with a four-pitched plank roof, which was once adorned with a dome on a square pedestal. Tall rectangular windows, two on each side facade, were framed with narrow profiled trim of the simplest kind. On the western side, there is a double-leaf panel door, while the eastern facade is blind. The walls are completed with a heavy smooth frieze and a cornice with a wide overhanging slab.
