The chapel was built on the site where the Cathedral was blown up in 1962, and its bell tower was demolished on July 20, 1968. The funds for the construction of the chapel were donated by Igor Mikhailovich Gorsky, and it was handed over to the Bryansk Diocese. The consecration of the chapel took place on September 17, 2002, conducted by Bishop Theophylact of Bryansk and Sevsk. The chapel is dedicated to the Protection of the Holy Virgin.
