Previously, the chapel in the village of Kostenchugovo was wooden. The exact date of its construction is unknown, but from the preserved records, it follows that it already existed in 1734. In the State Archive of the Yaroslavl Region, there is a case from 1910 related to the Yaroslavl Spiritual Consistory about the construction of a chapel in this village, which belonged to the Nikoloboy parish of the Ilyinskaya volost of the Yaroslavl district. It is possible that during this period, a stone chapel was built on the site of the wooden one.
