The modern village of Breytovo has its history dating back to 1937. The old village was flooded, and only part of the street with wooden houses and a solitary stone house remain. The churches did not survive. During the Soviet era, the Breytovo district was considered the most atheistic, as there was not a single functioning church.

In 2002-2003, the Mother of God-Nicholas chapel was built on the banks of the Rybinsk Reservoir in Breytovo. This place holds symbolic significance, as an old village cemetery was located here before the flooding.

The name of the chapel has a double meaning. The first is associated with the icon of the Leushin Mother of God "I am with you and no one against you," which was kept in the Leushin John the Baptist Monastery. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, this monastery was one of the three most important women's monasteries in Russia, but it was destroyed and flooded in the 1940s. The second name of the chapel is linked to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. Since 2002, "Mologsky standing of memory" events have been held near the chapel. On the night of July 6-7, people gather on the banks of the Rybinsk Reservoir with lit candles to pray for the flooded city of Mologa.

The Chapel of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is a creation of modern craftsmen who continue the traditions of church architecture in the Breytovo district.
