The chapel of the Suzdal Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church was established in 1999 at the site where the Varvarinskaya and Pokhvalynskaya churches once stood.

These churches were located to the left of the road leading from the Rizopolozhensky to the Pokrovsky Monastery, before the bridge. Now, a chapel stands in this place. The street where the churches were located was previously called Pokhvalynskaya, and it is now Kropinskaya Street.

According to the inventory of Suzdal from 1617, on the Varvarinskaya side, there was a parish wooden church dedicated to Saint Barbara the Martyr with a refectory of the Solovetsky miracle workers Zosima and Savvatiy, built by the parishioners. The priest Vasily Alekseev lived in the churchyard. The wooden church stood until 1737. The future archbishop of Suzdal, Joakim, served in it before taking monastic vows. By his blessing, a cold stone church was erected in honor of the Praise of the Most Holy Theotokos, after which the wooden church was dismantled due to its dilapidation.

A new stone church was added to the Pokhvalynskaya church with altars dedicated to Saint Barbara the Martyr and the venerable Zosima and Savvatiy. The bell tower and fence were built simultaneously with the cold Pokhvalynskaya church at the expense of Archbishop Joakim. The church housed an icon of Saint Barbara the Great Martyr with a part of her relics.

In the 1920s, both churches were closed, looted, and destroyed. In 1937, their domes were removed.
