In 2013, it marked 120 years since the construction of the building, which is a cultural heritage site of regional significance. This building, constructed between 1891 and 1893, is located in Ulyanovsk at: Architect F.O. Livchak St., 2/1.

Construction was completed in August 1893, and the building was erected by the Simbirsk Diocese specifically for the male Simbirsk Theological School. At the corner of the modern streets of Karl Liebknecht and Architect F.O. Livchak stands one of the most beautiful buildings of Simbirsk-Ulyanovsk, designed by the talented architect Mikhail Grigorievich Alyakrin, who worked as an engineer at the Simbirsk County Zemstvo Administration.

By the decision of the executive committee of the Ulyanovsk Regional Council of People's Deputies on December 12, 1990, No. 79, the building was included in the list of monuments of history and culture as a monument of regional significance.

The history of this educational institution began in 1803 when the male spiritual gymnasium was transferred from Saransk to Simbirsk, and the Simbirsk Russian School was opened. In November 1818, it was renamed the Simbirsk Theological School.

Initially, the school was located in one of the buildings of the male Pokrovsky Monastery, now situated in the territory of I.N. Ulyanov Park. In 1822, it was moved to the territory of the female Spassky Monastery, where the Governor's House of Culture is now located. In 1833, the school moved to the building of the former Educational House, now Goncharova St., 13a. After a fire in 1864, it was temporarily relocated to Syzran during the restoration period. In the late 1880s, the Simbirsk Diocese decided to build a new building that met the requirements of the time.

At that time, there were nine monasteries and over 700 various churches in the province, where about 800 priests, more than 230 deacons, and about 680 psalmists served, indicating a shortage of clergy.

Before the construction began, a construction committee was established under the leadership of Sergey Alexandrovich Ostrovmov. The laying of the building took place in May 1891, and the construction cost the diocesan treasury 14,500 rubles. On the second floor of the new building, thanks to the funds of merchant and philanthropist Alexander Petrovich Konurin, a chapel was arranged in the name of Saints Cyril and Methodius, where the assembly hall of the medical faculty of Ulyanovsk State University is now located.

During World War I, a military hospital was set up in the theological school, as in other educational institutions. After the revolution, the school was closed.

In the 1920s, a children's educational institution called 'Children's Town' was located here.

During the Great Patriotic War, a military hospital was again established in the former theological school, and later one of the faculties of the Ulyanovsk Agricultural Institute was located here. With the opening of Ulyanovsk State University, the building was transferred to the medical faculty.
