Chapel of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in Pritykinskaya

In the past, there were many similar chapels in the Pezhemsky district. In the "Book given by the Dean of the 1st district of the Velsky county, Priest Konstantin Zemlyanitsyn to the Pezhemskaya Epiphany Church for writing the church chronicle dated June 23, 1915," it is stated:

"Pritykino, also known as Bereg, and previously called Podgornaya, is located to the south, five versts away. Divine providences, which sometimes brought misfortunes such as crop failures, droughts, pest invasions, livestock deaths, and fires, prompted parishioners to turn to prayer. This led to the emergence of many processions in the parish with the blessing of water and sprinkling of livestock and fields. On Spirit Day, processions took place in the villages of Yakovlevskaya, Pritykinskaya, and Chechetkino. On July 8 and August 6, in Pritykinskaya and Kozhinskaya, and on October 22, on the day of the Kazan Mother of God, in Pritykinskaya. Processions were conducted both from the church and from chapels in the villages. The eighth chapel was located in the village of Pritykinskaya, five versts from the church, and was dedicated to the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God."

During the Soviet years, the wooden chapel built in 1909 was used as a storage facility for the local village council. It was constructed from logs with a diameter of 25-30 cm and covered with planks. The building was built without a basement, and the corners of the log structures rested on point foundations made of boulders.

The architecture is dominated by the cubic shape of the temple with a low octagon that recedes from the edges of the cube and is topped with a tent supported by four pediments framing the windows of the second light. On the western side, a small refectory with a porch is attached to the temple, completely subordinated to the temple with an opening occupying its entire eastern part. The interior of the temple is unique: the ceiling, bordered around the perimeter, transitions through the trompes into the drum of the octagon, culminating in a flat covering. The wall paintings and iconostasis are absent.

The chapel is a typical example of the architecture of the Velsky district but features an unusual ceiling system that gives the interior a special character. In the late 1980s, the building was restored by specialists from the Leningrad branch of the "Special Project Restoration" institute. Recently, the chapel was painted white.
