The inscription on the memorial plaque of the chapel reads: "This chapel was built in 1893 in honor of the Kazan Mother of God with funds from a peasant from the village of Pestovo, Ivan Stepanovich Volkov, in memory of the fire that occurred on June 5, 1890. With the blessing of His Grace Jonah, Archbishop of Yaroslavl and Rostov, it was consecrated on June 4, 1893 by the rector of the Trinity Church, Avksenty Berezin, the rector of the Ilyinsky Church, Konstantin Vzdorov, and a retired priest-deacon, whose name is illegible. Only two houses survived from that fire, and three boys, brothers Vasily, Ioann, and Evridiy Stepanov, perished in the flames."
