Chapel of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in Fomino

Фото 1
Three kilometers from Purekh, on the banks of the Yug River, lies the village of Fomino. In 1875, a church was built here in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.

Previously, where the path to the holy spring now runs, there were many boulders. According to legend, one of them bore the imprint of the Blessed Virgin Mary's foot. Next to this stone, a pine tree grew, under which a small Kazan Icon of the Mother of God was found. Now, a chapel stands at this site.

The residents of Fomino and nearby villages have always considered the water from the spring to be holy and collected it for healing various ailments.

Downstream from the spring, a reservoir has been dug and a bathing area built, where holy water flows. People bathe here, hoping for healing from ailments and overall wellness, to strengthen both soul and body. Especially many people come here on the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord after the water blessing and on the day of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.
