The chapel was built at the initiative and expense of the Kirzhach philanthropist and entrepreneur, director of the local printing house, Evgeny Sergeyevich Fedorov. He erected it in memory of his mother, Natalia Vasilievna, who is buried in the cemetery in the village of Yelts. The architecture of the chapel is unique: it is designed in the shape of a spiraled candle, representing an octagon standing on a square base. The height of the wooden part of the chapel is 18 meters, and with the dome and cross, it reaches about 20 meters. The structure is entirely wooden, without the use of nails, which aligns with the best traditions of Russian architecture. The dome has an unusual shape, elongated and slightly curved, resembling the flame of a candle. There are no analogs of such architecture in Russian wooden architecture. The location of the construction is also unusual; it is an ancient glacial hollow about 10 meters wide, overgrown with centuries-old oaks, located by the Sherna River. The hollow stretches from the Pokrovsky Church to the river, which gave the chapel a second name, 'Candle in the Hollow.' The chapel will be consecrated in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. The construction was carried out by a team of brothers Sergey and Alexander Shershilov, with the participation of an experienced carpenter from Kirzhach, Boris Mikhailovich Volkov. The 87-year-old master manually chopped the first four crowns with an axe. The dome was made by master Mikhail Gashin and installed on May 20, 2020. The main construction work has already been completed. The first prayer service took place on the feast day of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God on July 21, 2020, conducted by Bishop Innocent, the Bishop of Alexandrov and Yuriev-Polsky.
