On May 6, 2013, on the feast day of St. George the Victorious, the archpriest of the churches of Kovrov and the Kovrov district, Father Stefan, consecrated a new St. George Chapel located in the park on Abelman Street. This chapel is part of a memorial complex dedicated to veterans of military operations. Believers, veterans, Cossacks, and representatives of the authorities of the city of Kovrov walked in a procession from the Church of John the Warrior to the new chapel.

The idea of building the chapel next to the monument belongs to the public organization "Warrior," and the sketch was developed by architect Olga Kharitonova. The construction began with the blessing of Archbishop Evlogy of Vladimir and Suzdal, with the support of city authorities and sponsors.

The name St. George Chapel was given in honor of St. George the Victorious, who is the patron saint of warriors. He was a faithful warrior and a good Christian, and in his honor, as well as on the day of his memory, it was decided to consecrate the chapel.
