Chapel of St. George the Victorious at the Vozdvizhenskoe Cemetery in Tambov

The chapel, located on Chichkanov Street opposite the main entrance to the Vozdvizhenskoe Military Memorial Cemetery, was built in 2004 in memory of the soldiers from the Tambov region who died in the Chechen Republic. It is consecrated in honor of the great martyr Saint George the Victorious, the patron saint of warriors. The site for its construction was chosen deliberately: until 1938, the Cross Exaltation Church stood on the territory of the current cemetery square.

At the entrance to the chapel, two granite obelisks are installed with the names and dates of the fallen soldiers and officers, totaling 113 individuals. The list begins on November 26, 1994, when our fellow countryman Vasily Zavyalov died in the battles for Grozny. This day has become a day of remembrance for all Russian soldiers who died in this war in the Tambov region.

Every year on November 26, representatives of veteran organizations, comrades-in-arms, and the relatives and friends of the fallen gather at the chapel. They lay wreaths and flowers at the memorial obelisk, and a memorial service is held.
