The city of Volzhsk, one of the largest and most beautiful in Mari El, has a population of over 50,000 people. For a long time, there was only a prayer house here, and it was not until the end of the 20th century that the construction of Orthodox churches began. On the territory of the modern Orthodox complex, the Nikolsky Cathedral, is the chapel of Alexius, Metropolitan of Moscow, built in 1997 with the blessing of Bishop John of Yoshkar-Ola and Mari El.
This small chapel, made of white and red bricks, is adorned with a small onion dome. It serves as a place of solitude for believers, where every Orthodox Christian can pray, light a candle, and reflect on the meaning of life. Holy water can also be collected here, as the chapel was built as a water blessing site at the Nikolsky Cathedral.
