Today, in the southern part of Tambov, on Andreevskaya Street, near the Tsna River, there is a distillery occupying a number of old buildings. Since 1891, the Tambov diocese candle factory was located here. In 1904, the construction of a new red brick building began under the guidance of Bishop Innocent (Belyaev) and Professor of Chemical Technology Leonid Grigoryevich Bogaevsky from the St. Petersburg Technological Institute.

The newspaper "Novoe Vremya" No. 12574 noted that engineer-technologist Bogaevsky was known as an outstanding chemist and builder of candle factories, as well as an educator who enthusiastically shared his knowledge with the youth. Candle factories in St. Petersburg and Samara were built according to his designs.

In April 1904, Bogaevsky brought the factory blueprints to Tambov, and on July 11, the foundation was laid. On January 26, 1906, the enterprise was consecrated and began its operations. It was planned that the factory would produce 50 thousand poods of candles per year. However, it only produced candles for 12 years, and the volume of their production is easy to calculate.
