The school building in Saratov is a significant architectural landmark of the city. It was designed by S. A. Kallistratov and built in 1914 as one of the palace schools erected in honor of the 300th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty. On the same year, October 13, the first city primary school opened here. In 1946, it was transformed into Women's School No. 2 and later received its modern status. Today, the school is renowned for its sports sections and creative clubs. Students from the 9th grade undergo pre-profile training, and from the 5th grade, they study the Russian language in depth. The school also has socio-humanitarian and socio-economic classes.

Known as the "school of heroes," in the pre-war years, it raised five Heroes of the Soviet Union. Among them are scout Vasily Nikitovich Simbircev and pilots Viktor Pavlovich Tikhonov, after whom the school is named, Alexey Ivanovich Holzunov, Vasily Alexandrovich Rogozhin, and Vladimir Stepanovich Zarubin. Memorial plaques honoring these heroes are installed on the facade of the building.
