The bust of Taras Shevchenko in the city of Shakhty has an interesting history that reflects the changes of the last century. In 1972, a bust of the famous Ukrainian poet was installed on a street named after Taras Shevchenko. However, in the 1990s, the street was renamed in honor of the great Russian poet Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin. At that time, it was decided to remove the Shevchenko bust and replace it with a fountain. The sculpture was kept in an unknown location for a long time until, in 2011, a group of citizens initiated a request for the restoration of the monument. The following year, the monument was restored, but not in its original location; it was placed near the local history museum, which is located on another street also named after Shevchenko. Such is the tangled history associated with this monument.
