On the waterfront of the city of San Remo, named in honor of Empress Maria Alexandrovna, wife of Alexander III, a bronze bust of this outstanding figure has been installed. The monument appeared here in 2010.
The installation of the bust is not accidental: long ago, the empress gifted San Remo with palm tree shoots, which have grown over more than a century and now adorn the waterfront.
The sculpture, created by Vladimir Goreyev, rises on a granite column and reaches over two meters in height. This gift to the Italian city was made by the authorities of St. Petersburg. In return, the authorities of San Remo sent a shoot from one of these palms, which is now located in the Botanical Garden of St. Petersburg.
